It is with deep love and profound sadness that we announce the passing of John (a.k.a Johnny) Edward Henderson (a.ka. Gato) who left us peacefully on May 23, 2026, at the age of 61. He was surrounded by his family who adored him.
Born on April 10, 1965, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Johnny brought an undeniable warmth and energy to every room he walked into. He lived a life anchored by his passions, especially his love for music and giving everyone a hard time. Whether he was pursuing his career as an aerospace machinist/security guard or sharing a story or funny joke every time he saw you, his defining qualities were his open heart, genuine kindness and unique sense of humor.
To his siblings, Johnny was more than a brother; he was a steadfast protector, a partner in laughter, and a lifelong confidant. His legacy is not found in titles, but in the quiet moments of joy and the deep connections he built with everyone fortunate enough to know him.
He is survived by his son, Johnny Henderson II; his devoted mother, Hazel Gonzales; his siblings Frank Henderson III, Anna Valli, Amy Byrd and Maria Lopez, as well many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father Frank Henderson II, sister Lois Salveson, grandfathers John Tabor and Frank Henderson Sr., grandmothers Frances Tabor and Dora Christian Donald, uncles Isaac Tabor, Cecil Tabor and Daniel Tabor and nephew Cesar Angel Lopez.
A celebration of Johnny’s beautiful life will be held on July 30, 2026, at 12:00p.m. at CMT Ranch (old red barn) at 5200 Dominion Rd., Santa Maria, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, an organization close to our heart.
